What is Ochre?

Evidence-based curriculum resources created for teachers, by teachers.

Ochre Education is an Australian not-for-profit committed to advancing student outcomes and closing the disadvantage gap.

They enable all students to access high-quality, curriculum-aligned resources through their online library. Their teaching materials help educators deliver consistent and coherent literacy instruction.

We are currently in the process of adding wordlists to support the Ochre curriculum and novel studies. Keep an eye out as we continue to add more content.

How StepsWeb supports Ochre

Assign Ochre-aligned practice for your students at the click of a button.

StepsWeb has added wordlists which align with the Ochre content, giving educators and parents access to:

  • Engaging online activities that reinforce what is being taught in class.

  • Printable resources like crosswords, sentence structuring, handwriting practice, and more - focused on words currently being covered.

  • Multiple formats and extra reinforcement, giving students exposure to key vocabulary in varied, meaningful ways. This helps to build long-term literacy success.

Reinforce important literacy skills

StepsWeb has a vast collection of research-based activities designed to build foundational literacy skills. Such as:

Ochre Curriculum Wordlists

The curriculum wordlists for Ochre are available for each year-group. There’s a range of ways you can use them:

  • The list can be assigned to students with your choice of activities for reinforcement.

  • Each wordlist activity can also be displayed for explicit teaching within your class.

  • In addition, you have access to a wide variety of printable reinforcement for every list, including handwriting sheets, definitions activities, crosswords and cloze activities.

Ochre Novel Study

Wordlists for Ochre Novel Study books are also available – and new ones are continually being added.

These enable teachers to offer extra support to struggling students – and extension activities to others.

You have a choice of activities for every wordlist, enabling both explicit teaching and a variety of reinforcement options.

Particularly valuable for vocabulary building:  your students can see and use that explicit vocabulary in different contexts.

Why stop there?

Explore StepsWeb’s structured literacy Course and our comprehensive bank of ready-made wordlists, or you can even create your own.

Wordlists covering sounds and letters for explicit teaching, spelling patterns and rules, grammar, numeracy and maths, and a wide range of topics can be found amongst the other items in Assigned Work.

You can even create your own custom wordlists, complete with your own definitions, pictures and voice recordings to reinforce any topic through engaging, research-based StepsWeb activities.
